Key Takeaways from the Recent CPA Membership Needs Survey

Thank you for participating in our recent survey! Your valuable feedback helps shape the direction of our association and informs the initiatives that matter most to you. Here are some of the key insights we gathered.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Strong Support for Professional Development
A significant portion of respondents indicated that professional development opportunities, including workshops, seminars, and certifications, are highly valued. Members are particularly interested in expanding knowledge in emerging therapeutic practices, including Psychedelic Assisted Therapy.

  1. Advocacy and Legislative Involvement
Many members emphasized the importance of CPA's role in advocacy. There is a clear demand for CPA to increase its legislative efforts, ensuring that the profession's voice is heard at the state level, particularly on issues affecting mental health policies and reimbursement practices.

  1. Networking and Community Building
Creating opportunities for professional networking, both virtually and in-person, remains a top priority. Members expressed interest in more frequent local meetups, peer discussion groups, and mentorship programs that foster deeper connections within the community.

Thank you for your continued engagement with CPA. We look forward to using your input to further enrich the value of your membership and help shape the future of the profession.

Advocacy Alert: Act Today to Shape the Future of Behavioral Health Services!

Image

Please take 2 minutes today to influence 2 key policies that will shape funding for and access to behavioral health services in 2025 and onwards! Both Congress and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) are currently reviewing proposals that could strengthen behavioral mental health services in Medicare, and in turn create positive ripple effects throughout the health care system.

Here are the two proposals – officials need to hear from you now to ensure they become a reality:

  • CMS: The annual proposed rule for the Physician Fee Schedule contains many overwhelmingly favorable proposals for services provided by psychologists. It sets the benchmark for how other insurance programs cover psychological services. All members of the psychology community have a stake in this rule. The proposed rule includes coding surrounding digital mental health, training for caregivers, privacy for providers and more!
  • Congress: H.R. 2474, a bill in the House, would provide long-overdue support to the dwindling workforce of Medicare providers. These providers on average receive payments that are 26% lower today than they were in 2001. The bill would tie the annual payment update to the Medicare Economic Index, which reflects changes in both provider expenses and broader economic trends.

You can more learn about the details of these proposals and send a separate, pre-written message to each audience here! The template messages can be personalized.

These proposals are a direct result of advocates like you speaking up for behavioral health services by weighing in on federal proposals over the past few years. Help us keep this momentum going and make a difference in your communities - please join our efforts to strengthen mental health services today!
