House Bill 1019 Update

Posted: February 19, 2019

Good news on the legislative front! Today, the House voted down HB 1019 which would have created a continuing competency program for Registered Psychotherapists in the state. The Colorado Psychological Association was actively opposed to the bill over concerns that the legislation would continue to legitimize a group that is not legitimate and would mislead consumers into thinking they are seeing someone with verifiable credentials and education. Under current law, a Registered Psychotherapist is registered with the State Board of Registered Psychotherapists, is not licensed or certified, and no degree, training or experience is required to register as a psychotherapist in the state. CPA provided opposition testimony and activated a grassroots network to educate legislators about the concerning provisions in the bill. Thank you to all within CPA who aided us in this critical effort!
