CPA Seeking New Leader for Legislative Committee

CPA's Legislative Committee serves as the lead for CPA's legislative and policy monitoring and decision-making. Working in concert with CPA's Board and Lobbyist (Jeannie Vanderburg of the Capstone Group), the CPA Legislative Chair is the point person for the Association regarding pertinent legislative issues as they impact the profession of psychology and CPA's membership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor Legislation: Receive a list of flagged bills from Jeannie and ensure they are vetted through the Legislative Committee if there is interest in running legislation.
  • Facilitate Discussions: Act as the primary point of contact for discussions on potential bills, determining who needs to be involved and identifying any necessary resources.
  • Legislative Alignment: Ensure that all legislative actions align with the association's mission and goals.
  • Represent CPA in Testimony: Testify or identify individuals to testify on behalf of CPA when necessary.
  • Stakeholder Meetings: Attend stakeholder meetings with Jeannie, most of which are virtual, though some may require in-person participation.
  • Collaboration and Advocacy: Develop relationships with legislators, educate them about the psychology profession, and monitor legislation and regulations that impact the field. When appropriate, the committee facilitates the introduction of legislation that will advance our profession.

Time Commitment:

  • The chair should expect to work on legislative committee items for 0-4 hours weekly
  • Expect heavier involvement during the legislative session (January-May)

Anyone interested in policy, law, and regulation as they relate to psychology is welcome to assist with the work of the Legislative Committee. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or offers to help.
