 Be A Pro Bono Volunteer

Volunteer a Few Hours to Transform Someone’s Life

Become A Pro Bono Outreach Program Volunteer with Mental Health America of Colorado!

“I am thirty-four years old. I am homeless.

I used to work for a railroad company, but when I was laid off I had trouble finding a different job. I lost my insurance and had to choose between using my savings to buy insulin for my diabetes or to make my mortgage payments. My physical health has deteriorated because of diabetes, to the point that I am unable to even look for a physical labor job.

I have a college degree. I used to help those less fortunate. I have depression. This is not how I pictured my life.”

This is the true story of an individual receiving counseling through the Pro Bono Outreach Program of Mental Health America of Colorado (MHAC). Since 1986, the Program has served uninsured children, families, and seniors who are low-income or experiencing homelessness, and who would otherwise not likely receive mental health services. All services are provided ‘pro bono’ – through volunteers – at over 30 host sites in the Denver metro area that already serve these populations.

Thanks to the generosity of its volunteers, in 2007 the Program was able to provide services worth approximately $975,000 to the Denver metro area on a budget of $186,000. We hope that you’ll consider donating your time to people in need!

As a Pro Bono Outreach Program volunteer, you can:
• Supervise an individual working toward licensure as a psychologist as he/she provides services for the Pro Bono Program such as anger management classes;
• Volunteer with preschool children affected by HIV/AIDS, providing play therapy and consulting with the children’s parents and teachers;
• Provide parenting classes or individual therapy to teenaged pregnant girls;

• Provide case consultations to the staff at a shelter for homeless families, to help staff better understand and support their clients who are living with mental illness;

·    Or create your own volunteer experience based on your interests and site needs.

Individuals working toward licensure and those who are licensed as psychologists are invited to apply.
