Joyce Fine, PhD, specializes in divorce related work as a Divorce Coach, Collaborative Divorce Facilitator and Pare ntal Responsibility Evaluator (someone who makes scheduling and decision-ma king recommendations to courts for high conflict divorce families). She als o conducts psychotherapy with adults, couples, and families in her private practice.
What makes a divorce healthy is the ability of the adults involved and the professionals who support them to re cognize and respect the humanity of the separating couple and their childre n (when children are involved). This means that everyone makes an effort to keep their eyes on a few basic goals: clear, thoughtful communication; ach ieving the best interests of all participants; and steady progress. Her job as a divorce coach is to be a companion and guide for individuals and coup les as they navigate the challenges of divorce. She serves as an objective thought partner to help all parties, as individuals or as a couple, think t hrough both minutiae and the big picture so they can avoid making emotional ly driven reactive decisions that may cause long term negative repercussion s.
In her divorce-related work and research sh e repeatedly encounters one essential truth: While divorce is deeply life-c hanging and rarely easy, the ways that a divorcing couple interacts with ea ch other deeply impacts both their and their children’s mental and so metimes physical health during and post-divorce, as well as everyone’ s ability to recover and move on in the aftermath of separation and divorce . A main priority in her work is to help clients communicate well with love d ones and with people they may have conflict with, with the goal of suppor ting clients to conduct their divorces in a way that enables everyone invol ved to recover and thrive rather than get stuck in negative long-term, ongo ing emotional and/or financial strain.
On a ha ppier note, she also conducts pre-marital workshops and works with individu al couples in her private practice using the Prepare-Enrich assessment.
Dr. Fine also enjoys speaking at divorce-related workshops and writing about divorce.
