Level: In
troductory
Topic overview: This luncheon will
focus on the Crisi Wartegg System (CWS), a methodology for the clinical us
e of the Wartegg Drawing Completion Test (WDCT). The WDCT, created in 1926
by the German psychologist Ehrig Wartegg (1897-1983), is a projective drawi
ng technique that can be completed in 5-10 minutes and is appropriate for c
hildren, adolescents, and adults. The WDCT consists of eight boxes, labeled
1 to 8, displayed in two parallel rows, with each row consisting of four b
oxes. Each box is delineated by a thick black margin and contains a differe
nt graphic stimulus or “mark”. The client is invited to complete each panel
by making a meaningful drawing that incorporates the mark in that panel. T
he resulting drawings are rigorously scored and interpreted according to th
e CWS (Crisi, 1998).
A recent meta-analysis (Gronnerod & Gronner od, 2012) attests to its validity in assessing personality and psychopathol ogy. It was also recently recognized as a valid performance-based personali ty test that can be used for certification in Therapeutic Assessment. Psych ologists in Italy, USA, Japan, China, Scandinavia, and South America freque ntly use it in psychological assessments. Since 2002, it is also a selectio n tool of the Italian armed forces. In this luncheon, Dr. Alessandro Crisi will discuss WDCT and demonstrate the utility of the test in a case present ation showing several clinical cases.
