Bio: |
Dr. Kim Gorgens earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Southern Illinois University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Rehabilitation Psychology. She has been a member of the faculty at the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Professional Psychology since 2001 and teaches principally in the areas of Psychophysiology and Criminal Behavior. She also has a faculty appointment to the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Additionally, Dr. Gorgens' professional interests include advocacy, outreach and education around disability. She was appointed by Governor Ritter as the Chair of the State of Colorado Traumatic Brain Injury Trust Fund Board, is the President of the Colorado Neuropsychological Society and is Chair-Elect of the American Psychological Association’s Committee on Disability Issues in Psychology. Dr. Gorgens has most recently published on the development of culturally competent clinical practice with persons with disabilities and she received the University of Denver Disability Student Services Excellence in Education award in 2007 and the American Psychological Association Council of Disabilities in Psychology (CDIP) Mentor Award in 2008. Her present interests lie in the promising developments offered by neuroscience and medical imaging. Dr. Gorgens’ forensic training centered on clinical service and research at Menard Psychiatric Prison in Chester, Illinois. Menard is Illinois’ largest maximum security prison and formerly housed the state’s condemned prison population as well as the state’s civilly committed Sexually Dangerous Persons (SDP’s). While there she collaborated with Dr. Mark Carich on the development of a Typology of Serial Rapists still in use today. Dr. Gorgens is an ad hoc reviewer for Rehabilitation Psychology and a contributor to the Encyclopedia of Clinical Neuropsychology. |
