SAMD EVENT: Film presentation- “Becoming Me: The Gender Within”

The first event of our series designed to provide an opportunity for education, discussion and connection around important topics related to diversity and multiculturalism. This film chronicles the journey of five transgendered individuals speaking candidly about what it means for them to be transgendered.  They speak openly about their developmental experiences from gender confusion, to coming out to family and friends, and (for some) completing their gender reassignment surgery.  Viewers are advised: This film does include excerpts from actual surgical procedures.

Please join Mary Ann Watson, Ph.D., the producer of this film and many other films involving the intimate portraits of individuals challenged by conventional standards, values, and beliefs of a monocultural dominant society.  Dr. Watson will lead our discussion of how we as mental health professionals can become better acquainted with the transgendered community as we expand our knowledge base to become more competent mental health providers.
